Statement from the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA) Executive Director
The Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association (OARA) is aware of the recent incident involving an automotive recycling company being fined $7,000 for violations of the Environmental Protection Act. While this company is not a member of OARA, we view such incidents with concern, as they reflect on the broader industry.
Environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of professional automotive recycling. All operators, regardless of association membership, are obligated to adhere strictly to environmental regulations to safeguard our communities and ecosystems.
OARA remains committed to promoting high standards within the industry. We offer our members comprehensive training, resources, and support to ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation. We encourage all automotive recyclers in Ontario to join OARA – and consumers to look for our logo when transacting with recyclers across the province.
Lastly, we urge the public and industry stakeholders to report any suspected non-compliant operations. OARA provides a confidential platform for reporting illegal operators, which assists in maintaining the integrity of our industry and protecting the environment.
